what appears on the screen is that I had a monetary loss of $2, but it was $2234 !!!!They claim they will give a partial refund, but I want a complete refund. This was a horrible experience and very upsetting.

I feel I was completely deceived and taken advantage of. God please help anyone else who is treated like this.

Original review Feb 20, 2020
Went in for an initial FREE EXAM. They said my initial consultation and exam were free. However, before I left their office they had $2100 out of my pocket, plus they claimed my dental plan through Aetna took off $2000 of the total. After the initial exam, it was my understanding that they required me to pay 60% and so I paid over $2100. However on my next visit I was booked to see a hygienist and she said I had opted to not do my bottom teeth. This isn't true. She had the financial clerk come in and we went to her office to discuss and review the so called plan. She said she only quoted me what my top teeth would cost and not the bottom teeth. I said it didn't make sense to not have the plan for the bottom teeth. They said some people do it that way. I didn't chose to do it that way. This was my first time hearing of such a plan to not do the bottom teeth until a later date. And, they said I would still owe beyond the 40%. Something like around 2,000 more. We debated, until the manager finally offered my money back. When I said, give me my money back, she then wanted to give a partial refund saying we had work done that had to be paid for. I am thoroughly disappointed and plan to seek legal help with the matter. I feel that I should be entitled to a full refund because I was quoted a great deal of wrong information. I would not recommend this practice to ANYONE!

LOL! "I would say they are great swindlers." That is the understatement of the year.

Aspen execs would steal from their own grandparents. As much as you hate to hear it, they have a point that they delivered some care, no matter how incompetently. Be happy with what you can get without hiring a lawyer.

My heartfelt prayer for you is that next time you will look for a dentist based on honesty and competence, which means excluding losers who work for *** claims like Aspen. Wall Street scoundrels owning chain dental clinics is a recipe for disaster for patients.

Hi I got the comfiytes upper dentures. I know there getting old but are in great shape. The gum part of them turned an orange color I went to them they did they didn't know why. They said the only thing they could do is for me to buy new ones. They quoted me a price of $1800 as I got the top of the line. I was in shock as I could get a few more years out of them. I ask for a discount they offered 30% off which is the coupon for every one. This is a defect on the dentures I fell they should be replaced free of charge. Pleasee help me with this issue. I had me teeth pulled and dentures upper and bottoms great service except for this issue. Thank you Cheryl Maguire

NEWS FLASH- The flexible nylon-like material Aspen uses to make their expensive dentures is not superior at all, but inferior. That is why no other dentists use it.

It is hard to adjust, impossible to reline, and does not bond to teeth, so they frequently fall out. You got rooked. Why you went to these shysters for dentures instead of an experienced, reputable dentist is a mystery beyond comprehension. I guess TV ads are reality in your mind.

For goodness sake, get a competent dentist to make new dentures for you. Expect a good set to cost between $3500 and $4000.

Wanted to extract teeth for no reason...

Went in knowing I needed 2 teeth extracted and cleaning since I haven't had dental insurance in year's since being disabled. Aspen Dental had other plans like extracting at least 4 more or all of the bottom back teeth to match the other side and even out they said with a parcel and let's put a crown on that one for a $1000 plus and financed through Dentalfirst Finance and overcharge me with APR Rate of 14%99 instead of the 28%99 which it's in the paperwork I have in front of me as I write this.

Being told I didn't complain within the 60 period which I didn't know until a good 30 days later but told Aspen Dental and thought it would be taking care of. Little did I know these people meaning both companies were in the business of ripping people off for every penny they can. Don't trust these people they lie to many people while waiting and listing to a few people complain and at the same time another person with my first name happen to be there and called back he jumped up and went right back and I had been there ahead of this person just glad it wasn't brain surgery. Well I could probably say a bit more but you should get the point.

THESE 2 COMPANIES ARE NO WAY IN THE BUSINESS OF HELPING PEOPLE WITH LOW INCOME AND HELPING THOSE WITH NO INSURANCE LIKE THE TV COMMERCIALS SAY...

By the way when I was employed I went to the Dentist twice a year I'm 60 year's old now and never been hurt as much by a Dentist getting numbed up or ask if I was okay or nothing, Seemed he was more interested his young Assistant since she was a little on the pretty side instead of the patient. If I didn't know better I wouldn't have known I was even there.

A$pen Gyp Joints Inc. is the best place to pay high prices for mediocre dental work.

A third of my patients are uninsured and still come regularly.

You could have gotten your teeth cleaned cheap at a local dental hygiene college. You neglected them and now it is going to cost you a hefty sum wherever you go.

I 'm filing a complaint against Dr. Thomas Noakes

I all ready have fear going to the dentist in the first place. I was schedule for August 30 2019 to have my teeth extraction Dr. Andrew was unable to preform the procedure due to a family matter so a Dr. Thomas Noakes filled in for him. He stated who was and the reason why he was their. He started to proceed with let me know that he would be numbing me as he numbing me it felt kind of wear like he was just sticking the needle wherever. So he continue to start extracting my teeth he did let me know that if I felt any pain to rise my hand every thing was going good so far he took a few minute break then started to proceed to what he doing. He had about six more teeth to pull so I rise my hand and he stated to the assist that he could not issue and more pain medicine he went to the front office and when he came back he stated to the assist that he had to pull the last 6 while he was pulling the teeth I was in a lot of pain when he was finish it was time to place the dentures my mouth was full of blood I was in pain he took the dentures and shovel them in my mouth I was unable to talk he just kept shoving them in my mouth I was finally able to push them back and they landed in my lap my paints go all bloody and then they fell on the I was about to *** on my self got to the restroom blood dripping out of my mouth I was finally given so glaze to help stop the bleeding I sat there with the assist she was amazed as well as the office this hole time I was being traumatize by this hole ordeal the assist set there with me just amazed by what happen I was given glaze to take home and a prescription for pain. This hole of ordeal still have me having panic attack nights are hard to sleep because all I can see how this person kept shoving these big teeth in my mouth went I was trying to stop him because of the pain I was having this just add more pain during this time I remember hitting my fist on the chair arm. I don't know what this doctor problem was but this was a devastated experience for me and I'm still having panic attack with this ordeal something need to be done I feel that I should compensate for this ordeal. I'm still going to Dr. Andrew for my dentures they apologize but still it not helping me with my anxiety. The assist was the hole ordeal I don't recall her name. My sister was there with me as well.

First of all, the word is "There" and not "their." And your spelling declines from there. Look wait until it hurts, then go in to get the tooth extracted instead of saved, and you are bound to suffer.

Plus you select the sleaziest joint in the US for treatment, probably because of a stupid TV commercial. PREDICTION: You will wait until it hurts again before having treatment, then go to another chop shop like Coast Dental.

Terrible

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Went there because they offerred financing and got sick of having a cavity on a front tooth that was noticeable and a back tooth causing a lot of pain. A quick bit of background...... I had never had any dental work done and always had exceptionally healthy teeth until I hit about 27.... over the course of about a year I got several facial cavities and a deep one in back that had broken through to the nerve. I found out a couple years later that this rapid decay was due to a hormonal imbalance, but at the time I was just really freaked out. Went to Aspen because they offered financing and I needed to deal with that bad tooth in the back quickly.... but was very clear when making the appointment that I was very nervous and had zero experience with dental work. My first visit was OK, they did xrays and an exam but I had to be very vocal about the fact that I had been fine with a quick annual cleaning my whole life and needed everything that was going to happen actually explained to me. They gave me as little information as they could and I was shocked at the number of cavities they found... 6 or 7! The doctor didn't even notice that back tooth, even though I jumped as soon as that metal scraper thing got near it. He told me he could fill it. I told him again how painful that one was and he looked again and tells me that he was wrong the first time, it needs a root canal and that they don't do that in their office.

So fast forward to the point where I am discussing the plan of treatment with the desk lady..... they give me an estimate of about $3400 for everything except the root canal but a big chunk of that payment was for work needed on that bad molar after the root canal. I thought it was expensive but I needed relief.... asked about financing and was asked a series of questions to see what I qualified for while she typed my responses into their system. I wasn't told there would be a credit check, but I assumed that was happening so that wasn't a huge deal for me. I get approved to cover the full amount plus an extra thousand dollars if needed with one year interest-free. Pretty standard deal and I understood the huge interest charge if not paid off in time since thats pretty common with other types of financing too.

Then they lay the biggie on me.... they just happen to have an appointment with the hygienist today for my annual required cleaning but I would need to pay a deposit and sign paperwork to start the finace contract that day and my payments would be due in 30 days. The furniture store I work at does this exact type of deal, where your interest free period starts as soon as you take your first item (in cases where some things are delayed or not delivered in one trip etc.). It's a *** deal, but not unique to this predatory financial lender. PLUS, I only need a few fillings so I am thinking this will take a few visits tops and I'll have plenty of time to pay it off.

I want to get it over with, so I agree and after my cleaning go back up to the desk to schedule the fillings only to be told for the first time that they cannot do the fillings until I get the root canal and they dont have any referral list.... she literally told me to Google endodontists and start calling.

After a few calls and some research, I find out root canals are really expensive (rememeber, I needed financing for everything else so I am not sitting on a large sum of cash or anything) and it would be at minimum a month until I could get an appointment to be seen. After a week or two, I accidentally bit down on that bad tooth and felt something pop and terrible pain. I call Aspen and asked about pulling it and explain what happened and that I couldn't wait. They say they have an opening and can see me now..... I am 40 minutes away, so I leave work and rush there and make my apointment for my fillings while I waited. They were "unusually busy" so it was two months out for the next appointment. OK, that sucks but then it'll be all done (or so I thought) and what else could I do? I asked how it would work with my loan, and she tells me since its a less expensive procedure a credit will go on my account to adjust the balance so I'll just have less to pay off but couldnt give exact figures until the doctor figures out what the new treatment plan will be... makes some sense.

They take me in. It was terrifying... no one explained anything or told me anything that was going to happen. They stick needles in my mouth and yank my molar out, grunting and groaning and whispering to each other etc. This may be normal, but they had to go in and dig around for bone fragments I guess, the whole time I am just terrified and anxious and smelling burning human tooth for the first time. After I am done, they tell me I can't eat or drink anything for several hours and shouldn't drink out of straws or smoke for awhile...etc. I wish they had told me this before I hurried over there at 6pm without eating dinner or having anything to drink before hand, but I just want to go home and I chalk it up to my own inexperienced and not asking questions beforehand. At least the pain will go away....

Next, I go for my filling appointment, excited as ever to leave that office minus the big black hole of a cavity that had since grown on my fang tooth (plus the others they found elsewhere). I ask about the credit and am told the amount (about $800) but that it would be kept until the plan was done to cover any unexpected expenses but that once the plan is complete any remaining credit will be aplied to my balance. OK, I am making 2 or 3 times more than my minimum payment every month at this point for some work that hasn't been completed and other work that I will never have done since that tooth was gone, but OK. Keep in mind I only have one year to have this paid off, but again OKAY, I can sort of understand their reasoning so I'll keep going...

An assistant seats me and goes over what we are doing today.... two fillings on one side in the back. I FLIP....according to their policies they can only do a max of 2 teeth per visit and they can only numb one area of the mouth in a visit so they must be relatively close together to even do two per visit. WHY WAS I NEVER TOLD THIS OR ASKED TO SCHEDULE FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS.... am I going to have to wait TWO MONTHS between each visit? I ask to schedule every appointment I will need to fill the cavities, I take the next available appointments and get it all planned to be completed over the next 2 months.

Every time I went back they found more cavities. I had cavities under the fillings. My front teeth started to turn brown in spots and I still have a ring of darker, gritty, stuff around a few of the fillings that no amount of brushing seems to help. Every time I floss, it catches on sharp edges from these shoddy fillings. I go a few more times and get the worst of them filled since I am now locked in to this financing.

Eventually I've had enough... I go in for what will be my last apointment and afterwards I tell the office/finance girl that I want my credit now and I want something in writing regarding what I am owed and what my current balance is after that days visit. I tell her I will never be back and am at a point where the credit will pay off my balance so it needs to be done right away. I am not proud of this, but I refused to leave until I had gotten phone numers to the corporate office and the finance company, copies of my contract, went over my care plan and asked to speak with someone above the person I was speaking to... whatever I could think of to be an inconvenience to them and let them know I wasn't going to let this go. I did have to make several calls and I kept meticulous notes of who I spoke with, in the end the credit posted on my next bill and I paid the balance off as quickly as possible.

WARNING, do NOT trust your mouth or your wallet with Aspen. I was VERY lucky to have an understanding of different types of financing and the ability to spend time dealing with this and the money to pay it off when I did. My fiance got fired about 4 months after I paid this loan off, so had the timing been even been a little bit different to where I couldnt make my payments or God forbid if I had missed a payment, I would have been really screwed in this whole sutuation. I have seen and heard so many horror stories since my experience with Aspen, so I know it could have been way worse. Not only are their business practices extremely shady, their medical care and patient care is overwhelmingly poor.

I continue to have cavities pop up and will have go through this all again when I can save up enough money and or find a dentist I feel confortable with. A year and a half later, I still regularly check my online account with Commenity bank to make sure they don't sneak any charges on my account. I would close it, but its actually helping my credit score; since it is an open line of credit, it factors in as if I have a $4500 credit card with $0 balance.

Sorry this is so long, but HOPEFULLY, my story can help someone else out there avoid the same frustration I dealt with.

First of all, nearly all dental offices offer some form of financing, all a better deal than at Aspen. SECOND of all, many general dentists (like me) do root canals on molars at far less cost then the specialists.

Of course, the young inexperienced Aspen dentists don't. Third of all, no honest dentist bills out ALL the treatment with the finance company. The usual practice is to bill treatment only as it is started. The criminals at Aspen like to bill it all up front, then make it difficult to get appointments to finish treatment!

By the way, if you have that much trouble with cavities, the best money spent would be making fluoride carriers trays to wear at night. This will stop decay dead in its tracks.

Botched Extraction

Aspen Dental - Botched Extraction
Explore video interviews

Went in for an extraction pf my bottom left molar. They numbed it, but I could still feel everything with that tooth.

So they gave me more numbing medicine, and I could still feel intense pain. I heard a crack and a jolt of pain seared through my body and I nearly lept out of the chair. They stopped the procedure and scheduled me to have the tooth extracted under sedation in two weeks. I was in so much pain at this point, and no one seemed to care.

So I immediately went to have an emergency extraction at another place. Aspen dental is a large corporation with thousands of patients. They will do just fine financially without me and my familu as their patients, so it doesnt matter to them if they hurt me. They have a team of well funded lawyers to protect them from accountability, so its really not a suprise this happened to me.

But I just want to let everyone know Aspen Dental is horrible. If you are thinking of going there, you should absolutely reconsider.

You are invited to join Boycott Aspen Dental today! Search online Aspen Dental WMD.

The one thing we have in common is we have both been hit. I am $11,000 injured by Aspen Dental. Last week my dentist FINALLY finished all treatment related to the injury I sustained by Aspen Dental that I had to cover (unless I wanted half of damages they caused). Still without a front tooth tho.

Aspen Dental won that round, but never will I stop screaming out, "Stay Safe; Stay AWAY From Aspen Dental! Aspen Dental uses weapons of mass destruction!

Making good dentures that fit and look good, as well as making chewing and pronunciation possible, takes a VERY difficult skill set. It takes years to be really good at it, when using a great lab, which Aspen never uses.

There is no way a young grad fresh out of dental school can make a good denture without some mentoring. Unfortunately, young grads at Aspen are never given enough time and good materials to do the job right. PLENTY of dentists still make dentures.

My office does. But you will be hard pressed to get GOOD dentures made in corporate clip joints like Aspen or Great Expressions or Coast or similar sleaze outfits.

I have explained in writing and verbally that my dental insurance has confirmed that I have the benefits for the charged services. The have not paid the claim as that are awaiting xrays and dental explanations for the DMD before they pay the claim. I have been attempting to get the office to send the required documentation to pay the claim for the last year. The dental office has never completed this and continues to give assurances they will . I continue to receive monthly invoices for this, and I am at my wits end with the negligence of this office and the dentists. The dentist used further scare tactics telling me my teeth were all loose and would probably need to be pulled out. This was actually not the case as my current dentist thinks that the Dentist as aspen dental was trying to get me to agree to procedures that were unnecessary . Please send the required documentation to the insurance complain too complete the claim Marian Mandell

Even if aspen dental did the "work" for free, you will still have to pay another dentist to fix all the crapola stuff they did in you mouth. Just because you might have a zero balance with aspen doesn't mean every thing is okay in your mouth. Aspen dental=scam artist.

Crummy crooked dental insurance plans often give excuses for not paying claims. "We need more information." "We never received your claim." "Write an essay on why you think the treatment is necessary." Many times we honest dentist do this, and the chintzy insurance company says they never received it.

And they want us to go through the hassle again. Be a man. You are an adult. Take care of the problem yourself.

Ask for the documentation from Aspen, then send it to your insurance company CERTIFIED MAIL so they can't claim they did not receive the claim.

Include the threat that if they don't pay the claim in 15 days, you will report them to your state insurance commission. The only crooks bigger than Aspen are dental insurance companies!

The type of company you are dealing with is a crooked company owned by Wall Street sharks. Once money is swallowed by the Aspen corporate bank account is is like matter being swallowed by a black hole in outer space.

No force in the universe can pry it out.

Original review Mar 04, 2020
The phone clerk with the name starting with B at Aspen dental in Jacksonville NC does not know how to talk. her sentences are out of sequence. First she says she can't schedule me 6 months out, I never asked for that. Secondly, she said that the manager would have to schedule it because different offices have different rules. I then stated, if your office doesn't follow Aspen dentals business plan I don't want to go there anyway. I hung up. She then calls me back. She tries to make herself not look like a fool while belittling me saying finally she can do it if I would let her finish her sentence... I said, don't worry about I'm not going to "your" Aspen dental office. Her tone came through before she could stop herself I guess. And she just could have started with yes we can schedule you but I am going to need clarification from my manager to do it. I guess in retrospect I blame her Manager for training his people correctly. I move al over this country and never had a problem going from one office to the next until this one.

You are making a mistake going to a sleazy chain like Aspen because you move a lot. It is easy enough for ANY dentist to transfer digital x-rays by pushing an e-mail send button.

ANY new dentist will need to examine you when you move. Think a dentist in another Aspen will fix something free that another Aspen dentist screwed up? Think again, Sam. They all work on commission.

No dentist want to spend time repairing another's boo-boo, because it earns him no commission. In short, you are making a BIG mistake trusting your health to a shady group of Wall Street investors that own a chain clinic.

I was happy with first visit a little irritated they don't actually do anything on the first visit and make you come back but an super irritated that I can't get my tooth fixed for a couple of weeks. Not sure why they book a new patient problem visit if they can't fix it in a decent time frame. I will have to pay a little more but whatever I will have to get my problem fixed walking around with a broken molar for a couple of weeks isn't something I want to do. It doesn't feel wonderful. Maybe they should be clear about the fact that you won't get anything done on day one rather than x Ray's fine seems fair but at least be able to accommodate problems or stop booking new patients until you can? Super annoyed otherwise staff and dentist where fine.

Before a dentist examines you, how can they possibly know what is wrong and how much time it will take to fix it? That being said, every practice management text says to address the patient's chief concern at his first visit, if at all possible.

As A$spen, this rule is turned on its head. No matter what the concern, the priority is to do an exam and treatment the maximum $ amount of treatment, necessary or not. Then twist the patient's arm to pay for the treatment in advance. Once they got your money, they will make it difficult to impossible to get appointments to have the treatment done.

The object is to have you give up in frustration, and let them keep your money for doing not much at all.

It is the A$pen way! What happens when Wall Street Crooks own dental clinics instead of licensed dentists.

Went to my first appointment at Aspen Dental in Hilliard, Ohio knowing that due to bone loss I would eventually need to have my teeth pulled and replaced with dentures. My immediate concern was 3 infected teeth that were causing a lot of pain. They weren't interested in removing just the infected teeth but wanted to schedule me to have them all removed at once. When I told the office manager that I didn't have $6000 to pay for removal plus dentures they were finished with me. I checked with both my primary and secondary dental insurance carriers, either one would have covered the full cost of the three extractions I needed. All Aspen would do is write a prescription for antibiotics.

If they can't rake in $5000 or more up front, you are not worth their while. Incidentally, when I encounter a patient with several loose teeth that cannot be saved, I usually do 1 or 2 for free.

Think Aspen does this? Not a chance! This may be the greatest gift God could give you- being turned down at a shyster outfit like Aspen. Now you can find a good independent dentist who will treat you right and possibly save some teeth.

Remember two things: 1. Ideally you should wait 3 months before taken impressions, to allow the gums to shrink and heal. 2. Good dentures take a lot of time and skill to fabricate.

I would count on $3500-$3800 for complete upper and lower, and a little more for partial dentures. If you think any other corporate chain clinics will be much better, you are crazy.

Getting a complicated thing done like implants at a chop shop like Aspen is like bringing a jet turbine engine to Jiffy Lube for an overhaul. Wrong place for the job.

How could you have been so stupid? Bet you anything they put those stupid "mini" implants in. We real dentists call them temporary implants because they fall out so quickly.

After a year or so, you MIGHT get $5000 back in compensation if you hire a lawyer. That is about the limit of what those crooks ever refun.

DON'T ALLOW CROOKS INTO YOUR MOUTH

This is the first time I have ever been to the dentist and they want money upfront before anything is even done. They extracted two teeth in back of my mouth on the left with no problem and now, another one towards the back right side.

So far, no problems. After the exam of all my teeth, I was told that after what Medicare insurance and my dental discount would cover, I owe $3,400 for 3 teeth to be capped, one to be pulled for which they wanted to do a bridge or transplant and I said no to either one and told them to pull it instead. I know how much transplants and bridges cost. I later find out that with the work done above, I also have fillings all to the tune of over $10,000.

How in the world could I have SO much work to be done in my little mouth for that amount of money? I will find a dentist who will be more reliable than crooked.

No kind of honest dentist wants all the money up front for treatment. Normal dentists are on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The favorite Aspen trick is to collect all the money up front, then make it hard to get appointments to actually get the treatment completed that has been paid for. They hope you will give up and just let them keep the money for doing nothing. Are you aware that Aspen has been hammered by the attorneys-general in FOUR states? President Robert Fontana just pays the fines and keeps up the patient scams.

To these crooks, fines are just a cost of doing business. PLEASE get a second opinion from an honest independent dentist before having any more treatment.
