Aspen Dental in Anderson, South Carolina - Refusal of service

On June 11, I had an appointment with the hygienist for a regular cleaning, I had made the appointment in December. As soon as I registered, the receptionist asked if I wanted to handle my balance then. She said I had a $125. balance for x-rays. I explained that I have insurance. According to her I had not had full mouth xrays for 3 years. I said to not do the xrays. she supposedly asked the dentist who said she would not continue with my appointment without the xrays. Do I not have the right to refuse an extra service? The receptionist was very rude. I am 72 years old and I feel I was a victim of ageism. This happened at the Anderson, SC office on Clemson Blvd.

You aren't a victim of anything except your own ignorance. You have the right to refuse x-rays, and they have the right and duty to refuse any treatment.

In fact they should, if you will not allow any x-rays. That being said, in my practice I accept x-rays up to 5 years old, but require updates of certain teeth before performing any treatment.

She was probably trying to tell you that insurance will not pay for a new set of x-rays within a time period, so she wanted you to pay out of pocket. I doubt that there is any way to scam a patient that Aspen has not dreamed up yet.

Don't think you know what your are talking about. Implants are the things that are surgically embedded in the jawbone.

What goes on top after healing is either an implant supported removable denture, or a implant supported fixed-hybrid appliance. The latter takes more implants and cost about 10 times as much.

Going to a chop shop like Aspen for implants is like going to Jiffy Lube for a jet turbine engine overhaul. Wrong place for the job, buddy.

It is not normal to do cleanings on the first appointment with ADULT new patients. However, exams are easier on kids, so we usually do exams, x-rays, cleanings AND fluoride treatments on children the first visit. My question is this: What were you thinking when you decided Aspen was a good place to take your precious children for treatment?

It is a tight labor market. Aspen is the lowest paying dental outfit out there.

Hygienists only work there for a short time until they can get a better job. Don't expect any hygienist to stay at Aspen more than 6 months.

Incidentally, Aspen does not give hygienists near enough time to do thorough cleanings AND disinfect their rooms and sterilize their instruments. It is practically impossible to get good cleanings at Aspen.

Usually one-shot emergencies like crown recements should be paid in full the day of the visit. It is not worth it for dentists to spend a half hour on the phone to investigate your insurance for cheap things like this.

Most dentists charge around $100 for a crown recement.

You have to satisfy your deductible. YOU could submit the claim and get a small amount back from the insurance company Employee relations are very strained at corporate shyster outfits like Aspen, so I am not surprised about the employee conflict in the parking lot.

Ruth, You had an honest dentist that "you saw on a regular basis" who never said anything about decay. Why on earth then did you go to a horrible corporate chop shop like Aspen and take their advice.

Why did you not return to your regular dentist for verification? The teeth may have been decayed. It is not normal for a bridge to come off again in 7 months. However, the decision to extract ALL the teeth was a radical one.

Of course they make partials that you cannot wear. That is what they do. They use cheap materials and cheap labs. Their dentists are not allowed enough appointment time to do it right.

NEVER go to a dentist which advertises on TV. NEVER go to a corporate dental chain clinics, PERIOD.

Aspen Dental in Killeen, Texas - Ripped Off By Apen Dental

Two months ago I had my teeth cleaned at the Killeen, TX location, they wanted to replace all of my fillings and two implants for no reason at all. I declined those services and the $46 fluoride treatment. The receptionist was visibly angered when I declined the fluoride. More than a month after my cleaning I received a bill, $46 for fluoride, I have attempted to call the office at least 10 times leaving messages, my call was never returned. I contacted "Customer Care" (what a joke) and they escalated my issue. I finally got a call from the staff at the Killeen office, they acted like they were doing me a favor. The office manager was supposed to call me today and didn't. This company stinks!

Please don't let them do an implant or root canal. Find a good dentist. There are many horror stories of shoddy work posted all over the web about poor outcomes when Aspen Dental does these procedures.

Just because you had not pain to start with does not mean the tooth was without problem. All it meant was you had no symptoms at the moment. Could have saved a lot of money (and a tooth!) going to an honest and competent private dentist.
