Horrible

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I went to the Aspen Dental office in Auburn, New York only to be kept waiting 45 minutes past my appointment time and to be dealt with by the rudest bunch of professionals I ever met. While waiting for the dentist I heard one employee do nothing but complain about working there. Then when the dentist saw me he was extremely rude to me because I was a new patient and looking for dentures. I guess if you are paying cash they don't want your business only if you are using their credit or have dental insurance. I will advise people never to go to Aspen Dental.

Sure A$pen employees are angry. Their backs are up against the wall.

Their conscience makes them want to treat patients right, but the money-grubbing private equity investors insist on big return on investment even if patients are butchered, oversold treatment, or plain cheated out of money.

The dentists aren't given the proper time, equipment, or lab support to deliver good treatment. Nobody went to dental school to be the sort of *** necessary to bring in the dough at a sleazy gyp joint like A$pen.

It really doesn't have much to do with being a cash patient.

A$pen is an equal opportunity scammer. Cash, credit card, or insurance- all patients are subject to the same scams.

Guest

I think you are exactly right about the cash part. I was a cash customer.

Things were not going well so I requested a refund before the denture process got to far. Received a full refund. I think the only reason I did was because they knew they could not suck no extra out of me.

I would bet MOST Aspen employees are angry, cannot say I blame them. Imagine what it must be like to have to be the middle person that has to deal with all the angry ripped off customers.

BIG RIP OFF

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had gone to Aspen Dental and they worked out a plan, I applied for the credit card. When I went back to my next appt. they said they had made a mistake and there would be an additional 500$ charge. I kept getting texts about appointments I hadn't made. An electric toothbrush was on the bill, they kept saying they were out of them. 6 months later I mentioned it they wanted to give one to me that had had mouthwash spilt on the box. I told them to take it off my bill, and didn't take it. When I discovered that if my credit card wasn't paid off in a year the balance would be charged 23% interest. I paid off the credit card. So after a year and a half Aspen Dental has 604.90$ of my money. A tooth had fallen out of my partial for the 2nd time, I took it back to them Dec. 20th to be fixed, I was told there would be a charge for the repair. I told them they owed me the money and they checked and agreed. I was told there would be no fee to fix my partials and I would receive my refund in 7 to 10 business days. The next communication from them was a bill for the repair. So a call was made to their corp. office and was told 2 weeks ago someone would get in touch with me. It is very hard to get hold of anyone. Such poor customer service. The dentist were very good. it's their office managers and administration that make it a bad experience.

Can you imagine the gall of ordering something, it not being in stock, and they charge you for it IMMEDIATELY? Yet what A$pen did with the stupid toothbrush was WORSE- because you never asked for it in the first place.

The scam is to get you on of those credit cards.

With the number, they can charge services until their hearts are content. The credit card is like a license to steal.

Not unusual about the teeth falling out of the partial. I hear that story all the time. Plastic teeth don't bond well to that flexible junk they love to use.

Glad you liked the dentist.

Believe me, the few young A$pen dentists that are any good leave those scam shops in no time at all- usually within 6 months.

A$pen is the bottom of the barrel for dental employment.

Suggestion: complain to you state attorney general. FOUR states have already slammed this shyster outfit.

Good luck with that!Call now and be prepared to wait a while. You know, the "usually high call volume" excuse.

Perhaps by the time Christmas rolls around a real human will pick up the phone on the other end of the line. They might promise you a refund. Maybe by the time the NEXT Christmas rolls around you will get a small refund check.

I got my dentures through aspen, i wish i went somewhere else instead of here the worst experience I've had in a long time . They have hidden cost they don't tell you about until it's time to get them fitted i didn't know you have to get them fitted and it would cost more money . I got the good dentures and warranty with it and still they say it cost more money that is all they care about is money not the patient's , so if yiu need a dentist go somewhere else that care about you not the money . Now I know why I don't like dentist .

That isn't the worst of it. If you got their expensive Comfy-Junk dentures, know that they are notorious for teeth falling out.

And guess what? These flexible dentures are just about impossible to reline. There is not a thing superior about A$pen's ComfyLyte dentures.

In fact, they are inferior to heat-processed acrylic dentures. It is all a marketing gimmick to get more money out of patient's wallets.

02/09/2018. I went in a couple days ago and had X-rays done for two painful teeth that needed extraction. I wanted them removed that day but the told me the oral surgeon had to do the extraction and they scheduled an appointment for today Friday and the had me pay upfront on Wednesday for the extraction on Friday. I go in Friday they tell me the oral surgeon isn't there and I'll have to come back in six days. I said no I want my money back. They said they do give money back I would have to wait for a refund in the mail and it would be 7 to 10 days. I complained at the office and my husband called. Jessica tried to help, the transfered me to someone who was supposed to help but they wouldn't give Hime her name and she hung up on him after he asked for her named the second time. I hope all there calls are recorded. So now I took of work for no reason and have two teeth giving me extreme pain and I'm broke so I have to wait 7 to 10 days for my money back before I can go somewhere and have an extraction. I think that is a long time to wait with searing pain in your head. Evening if I rescheduled for next Thursday like they asked. Six days is also a long time to wait with searing pain in your head. I would not return to Aspen dental in Trussville for any reason other than to get the money they stole from me. If u happen to go don't pay for anything until after it is done.

Guess the A$pen Black Hole Vortex sucked your money right in. Rule #1 at A$pen: Bill and collect for the money, and worry about if and when you can actually perform the service later.

Makes it hard for the patient to go somewhere else, doesn't it? Means they got you and your money trapped.

Think you will only wait 7 to 10 days to get your money back? The average patient on this forum reports a wait of 6 months or more!

Think this sleazy outfit might be cash-strapped?

By the way, A$pen Dental of Trussville is not different from Tupelo or any other location. They are all cut from the same grubby corporate mold.

Machele Imf

Anytime someone providing a service demands payment "up front" you should run away as fast as you can. Aspen is known for this tactic. Best you find a local dentist or an oral surgeon in your area.

Deceptive practice

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My husband was told several times that he has very nice teeth but needed his wisdom teeth taken out plus one molar. Surgery went well, he went back for a follow up, healing well. He tried to make another appointment for a cleaning but was told he had to get a 3 part series cleaning which would cost $2000 out of pocket. Mind you; he has dental insurance that pays 100% of 2 cleanings a year but not at Aspen Dental, they obviously want all that your insurance will pay and then your whole life savings too. Since he has such nice teeth why can't they just do a regular 6 month cleaning?

Short answer: Even with 30 minute appointments and taking unnecessary x-rays and overselling $125 electric toothbrushes, A$pen won't net as much income as if they could bill your for an unnecessary scaling and root planing. It is this clown club's favorite scam perpetrated on its patient-victims.There is a slight chance your husband has gum disease with periodontal pocketing and tartar deep under the gums that requires anesthesia to remove. There is always the chance that Hailey's Comet will return to earth early as well. Why a guy like your husband with "nice teeth" went to a one-stop chop shop like A$pen, instead of an honest independent dentist, is a mystery beyond human comprehension.

Never heard of "natural mouth glue" from the compounding pharmacy. If something like this exists, don't see anything wrong with prescribing it.

Good-fitting dentures should not need adhesive anyway.Immediate dentures constructed before teeth are extracted are always a little loose. That is why it is better to extract all the teeth, wait several months for healing, THEN begin denture construction. Unfortunately, few patients are willing to to it this right way.You are right about putting a soft liner in there to make it more wearable. They got your money, chum.

You are old news to them now. Your best hope is a competent dentist can reline it temporarily to make it wearable, then fabricate a decent denture once all the healing and gum shrinkage has taken place.Don't dare think that another corporate chop shop like Great Expressions or Affordable Dentures will be any better.

And yet another comment where you belittle the person that is writing a complaint. I thought this site was to review a company, product, or service.

YOU use this site to add insult to injury. Not everyone knows a lot about dental procedures. And obviously this company really doesn't care about people based on everything I have read so far. It seems like Aspen is only concerned with how much money they can get.

But many people obviously did not know this when they went there so you talkin down to them, calling them a moron and idiot or a Chum or things like that serves no purpose whatsoever. And if you are indeed a dentist as you claim to be, I hope I never run into you anywhere at a dental office because you, sir; quite frankly you're an {{Redacted}}!

Price gouging by aspen dental as well as poor service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had never had a root canal nor a cap put on until age 45. Which I was fairly proud of. My wife thought that we would give Aspen a try, so we did. I went in they did an assessment of my teeth and told me that everything that had been done in my mouth needed to be redone. Wasn't really what I came in for but I took it in stride. They then proceeded to give me a price sheet that would have come to over 9000.00, yep that is correct no extra zero in there. I told them that I could not afford that and that we would have to just focus on the root canal and cap at this time. They talked me into a periodontal treatment in addition to that as they informed me that it was bad and needed to be taken care of. The process of getting the root canal was long and very painful as expected. I shelled out around 1000.00 for the visit and was told that I would need to come back in three weeks to get the cap. I broke off the temp and came back two three days. At which time I was informed that that the work done a few days later was not done right and they had to get in and drill again. Long and short of it they do not seem to know what they are doing. When I came back to get the cap they said well that will be about another 1000.00 which I was very puzzled about thinking that with my insurance i had already paid 2500.00 dollar for this and you want another grand to put a piece of tooth in my mouth. I went with it and got it done only to have a conversation with my neighbor a day or two later and find out that they paid less than me without insurance. They also got a discount for not having insurance. The difference in the cost for the same service at the same location was the 1500.00 that my insurance paid. So why have insurance I ask or is the real problem companies like this that feel that the insurance money is just free to take because we are foolish enough to think that we are doing the right thing.

I forgot that I posted this review until the system sent me an email showing the additional comments. That being said I do have a followup on my experience.

Sometime in February I got a phone call from Aspen where they informed me that I overpaid my fees by around 1000.00. Surprise, surprise, this is what I told them when they asked me to pay the bill. They then asked when I would like to come in and use that money against additional work that they wanted to do on my teeth. I informed them that I had bought a new house over Christmas and had moved far enough away that it was not convenient for me to use them anymore.

They said they understood but that they were only able to refund me the money that came out of my actual checking account and not my Health funding account, both of which are my funds no matter how you look at it. Not to mention you have a grace period of 90 days on the Health spending account so they could have put the money back on the card but they didn't have the knowledge on how to do it.

Either way they held on to 1000.00 with a complaint in order until I no longer had the ability to use it and had to forfeit the funds to the HSA provider. While I awaited the money to funded back into my account they called again 5 days later and went through the exact conversation with me. I informed them that we already went through this and that they needed to refund the money and stop calling me.Long and short of it I did get 350.00 back, not sure if it is due to the review that I wrote that gave them the initiative to actually take a look at their books or not but still not a great experience. The BBB really needs to take a good hard look at their operations.

Seems like you have grounds for divorcing your wife, as her hare-brained idea of "giving A$pen a try," has resulted in so much harm for you.

Not much chance a young dental graduate can working at A$pen can do a good molar root canal. Even if they could do it correctly, they aren't booked enough time by their office managers.

You know these young dentists, a lot of them fresh out of school, are triple-booked with patients? On a good day I can do an easy molar root canal in an hour. They don't give A$pen dentists near this much uninterrupted time to do a root canal, and most need two hours.

You are aware each time a root canal is monkeyed with by a new person, the tooth is weakened? Better to do it once and do it right.

Otherwise, the chance of tooth fracture is increased.

What you want to bet so much of that other $9000 worth of treatment they wanted to foist on you wasn't necessary?

Really good dentists trained old school can put a large amalgam filling on that root canal tooth that will hold for several years until you're sure the A$pen root canal is successful.

Look for an older dentist that served in the US military.

It was a disaster of an idea to give A$pen a try. Better give a third world dentist a try than a sleazebag corporate A$pen a try here in the USA.

We honest dentists tell patients until we are blue in the face that complete dentures are not a good treatment option. Yet hardheaded patients don't believe us and continue to neglect their teeth. Why you went to a chop shop like A$pen for this complicated treatment is beyond comprehension.

It's not like there aren't a ton of good dentists to go to.Sounds like you finally got a competent surgeon on the job to clean up the mess.

Hope you manage to adapt to good dentures. Expect upper and lower dentures to cost between $3500-****.

Your A$pen office in Augusta Maine was courteous and professional???? That is the only unbelievable part of your story. You go to another A$pen Gyp Joint location for them to tidy up something on a partial made in Augusta?

Don't understand what is going on, do you? There is ZERO commission for dentist in the Tennessee office to monkey around with a partial made in Maine. He has ZERO incentive to see you. He knows you will never return for a pay procedure.

You are just a bother to him.Wise up and seek care at a real dental office. Forget the *** chain clinics owned and operated by Wall Street sleaze.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I went to them to fill my teeth and nothing else, but I had to let them give me a free examination. No one told me what they found doing the exam. I was rushed to the office manager office where he wanted to check my credit. I told him I had Care Credit he said what he had was better. He never told me what the examine showed he just gave an appointment 2 weeks later. They called and canceled that appointment and I had to wait 2 more weeks before returning. I didn't know I had been charged $1647 over a month before anything was done. On top of that I had to pay them $40.00 on top of that. I thought I was there for them to tell me the results of the exam. Not so I don't remember anything after they walked in the room until a sharp pain hit me in the left side of my gum. I screamed and jumped and I was ordered to stop. The next thing I remember was them waking me up. I left there without knowing what they did to me. I had no idea they planned on doing surgery, and there is no way I would have allowed it. Yet they examined me and checked my credit to see how much of my money they could take. They never told me how to prepare for the surgery because I didn't know it was going to happen. My credit was good and I paid for that because Aspen Dental performed procedures on me to justify taking $1647 over a month before they done anything. Dental First charged me late fees because I failed to pay on time. They had to figured out how to justify making me pay that money. The office manager disappeared after I complained about being charged over a month before they performed procedures on me without my consent. Please be careful when they check your credit. If my credit wasn't good I wouldn't be dealing with what I am going through now. I almost bleed to death because no one prepared me for that surgery. My neck felt like it was broke I had to hold my head in order to lie down and sit up for over a month. I am still having problems with my neck. Then he left roots in the top and bottom gum, and bones sticking out in top and bottom. He allowed these thing to remain in my gum over 4 months. Had I been approved for more there is a great possibility they would have taken all my teeth out. I could have died because I wasn't prepared for what they did. I pray this never happen to anyone else they placed no value on me or my life! All they knew was my credit was great! Someone signed my name on things without my permission. Unfortunately William that does not work so well either at Aspen. I was a cash customer, had no idea dental places were allowed to operate in this manner, trusted and never checked for reviews.

They tried to push me right into getting impressions made for full dentures right after the initial free exam. I was called "sassy"(tongue in cheek ) for actually suggestinging we go look at the cost before starting anything. From that point on I could tell they were irritated with me when I came in, word gets around fast.

My point is either way is not a good solution with ALL Aspen associates. They just want you to comply and do what they say is right.

Went today in Easley SC and they had pulled hubbys teeth 3 weeks ago and the dentures that they fitted for him them was big enough for a giant to wear. So went back today and they filled the teeth with soft filler and demanded he wear them. He can't talk or eat with them, they fall down and yes we paid up-front for two sets of teeth one in 6 months, so no help for teeth now. I asked for a refund and they got smart with me. Said would fit him in 6 months. I am thinking about getting an attorney. Wish I had read all these post before we went there. Never idea to extract all the teeth and fit dentures immediately. They never fit well this way.

Dental textbooks teach to extract all back teeth, let the ridge heal at least 3 months, then extract only the remaining anterior teeth when an immediate denture is inserted. This way the dentures have a chance of being stable.

You roll the dice when you go to a chop shop like A$pen instead of a reputable independent dentist. Obviously your husband lost.

Go to a good dentist and have him document deficiencies in your husband's A$pen treatment.

Perhaps, with a good attorney, you can recover some of the money you wasted.

Most of the time, however, money is sucked into the black hole vortex of A$pen's corporate bank account, never to be seen again. Think this operation might be strapped for cash?
