Billing

Aspen dental billing is a complete mess. They charge for work that isn't done and even when you pay them they send bills for work paid months ago, now I'm getting harassing calls for bills I paid, need a class action lawsuit. My daughter went there despite my warnings. She paid all deductibles at the office and got letters and turned into collection. she submitted the receipts to both and they are ignoring the evidence of payment and still harassing her. Don't go here the work is good but the billing, credit services, and invoicing will cost you plenty...... Don't let them mess up you credit because they are either just incompetent or criminal.

I also have a complaint on this site, I am sorry to see that your problem is worse than mine but I feel for your distress, and hope it works out ok. Unfortunately there are others who I would say "prowl" this database to literally beat up on the people with complaints and go so far as to harass them, adding insult to injury.

So if that happens just report them. Good Luck!

LOL! Kids never listen to advice from parents, do they?

To explain A$pen billing, you would need to take a mathematics course in Chaos Theory. That is the only way to explain it. A$pen knows a certain number of patients will just pay the balance of any inflated bill sent them.

You and your daughter must really be a pain to them for not cooperative. A$pen Dental- It is not a dental clinic, it is a shakedown racket!

Warranty No service

Bought an upper partial in late April 2018. Had it approximately 6 weeks and one front tooth came off while eating breakfast June 13. Went to Aspen office and they said it would require sending partial off for over two weeks to repair. Before agreeing I showed them that the partial was made wrong and even with a repair the tooth would be pushed out again because the bottom tooth pushed against it every time I chewed. They had taken my impressions wrong! The lab tech and on duty Dentis agreed that something needed to be done differently and re-scheduled me for the following week. When I returned they tried to bill me again, then put me with an assistant that had no idea what was wrong, and the on duty dentist refused to do the corrective work until the partial was repaired. (Catch 22) The lab tech was off and when contacted said she couldn't (now) guarantee her work. I was rescheduled for follow up with no guarantee they would do anything later. Totally dissatisfied and unable to find corporate address! Seems they hide from customers and their complaints! Maybe a good lawyer can find them!!

A$pen has more and better lawyers than you could ever afford, because they get sued by dissatisfied patients all the time. They got your money and are done with you. Since you chose a clinic that illegally operates in most states by virtue of being owned by non-dentists, your state board of dentistry cannot help.

About the only thing you can do is complain to your state attorney general. Four have slammed A$pen and maybe your state's AG will be the next.Aren't you glad you saved all that money going to a fleabag outfit like A$pen, instead of to an honest independent dentist who would have done it right from the get-go?

Dentures seldom crack unless they are poor quality ones made of cold-cured acrylic. The average dentist adjusts and repairs new dentures free for six months, which is what I do. Wonder how long Aspen's deal was?At Aspen, you get charged New York city prices for third-world-quality dentistry. This is necessary to feed the hierarchy of corporate executives and private equity investors who own this seedy operation.

Guest

I am having a similar experience. I paid almost $3,000 *low cost* ha ha and after going back 4 times was told they are not responsible for the partial.

I cannot wear it, it hurts to much. If I do try to wear it, with a lot of oral analgesic gel, I talk with a lisp. I talked to an attorney who advised me not to pay. When I contacted synchrony bank about my complaint they told me to file a Consumer Financial Protection report.

I did this only to be told "Your claim was presented to Aspen Dental." Well Duh!!! Aspen Dental said I signed the sales slip.

So I am responsible for their bad work. Now I have to find a dentist who will help me.

Very disappointing

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
On my first visit I thought the service was spectacular. That includes everyone from the receptionist to the financial person to the nurse to the dentist. I was very impressed and left that first visit thinking this was the greatest place ever. Today was my second visit apparently for a fitting. I felt like I was in everyone's way. The wax impression on the lower was causing me excruciating pain when I bit down. I realize that would be fixed eventually but absolutely no one involved in this today seemed to care that I was in real pain from biting down. Actually my lower gum on the left is slightly cut in the back. It will heal but it really hurt and still does as I type this. I really felt like I was in the way. Apparently I shouldn't have paid in full on my first visit, if that makes any sense. I kept being asked to bite down even though I said over and over and over how much it hurt to do so. I went out to my car and sat there in tears. Oh well. Just another senior that- well, I don't know the exact words to type. Shameful. I guess it will work out. Today should not have happened though. No way.

What you describe is a wax "mush-bite," a shortcut used when constructing cheap dentures so a step can be skipped.Don't count on everything else going right in this chop shop. Read some of the other reviews about Aspen dentures on this forum. For your info, here is the RECOGNIZED RIGHT WAY to fabricate dentures published in reputable textbooks.

If you are determined to proceed with Aspen dentures, check these steps against what they actually do.Appointment #1- Evaluate ridge and bone and take INITIAL impressions. Fabricate custom trays for final impressions in the lab.#2- Final impressions using the custom trays. In lab, fabricate baseplates and wax rims.#3- Mount upper cast using Facebow transfer. Determine bite opening by tests, then mount lower cast.

Select teeth from photographs of younger patient.#4- Try-in with teeth in wax. Do phonetic tests. Modify tooth positions and possibly bite opening. Send to lab for processing in acrylic.#5- Receive back from lab.

Adjust pressure spots and bite. Patient takes dentures home.Usually 3 to 5 appointments are needed after that for adjustments. Not simple, is it?

That is why good dentures cost as much as they do. Of course, at corporate clinics like Aspen, you pay high prices and get third-rate dentures.Better cut your losses now and get a partial refund, rather than proceed, pay everything, and get dentures you can't wear.

Shady Shady Shady

I just went in today as a new customer. I have Delta Dental Insurance and have no problems, just needed a routine cleaning and checkup. When I arrived I was informed I would not be getting a cleaning today - that I would need a separate appointment for that. RED FLAG #1 The girl that took me to do my xrays explained that I would have x-rays, the doctor would come see me, then the hygenist and finally the billing coordinator would speak with me about treatment plans and billing options. WAIT... I haven't even be seen yet, why are you assuming I will have a treatment plan or need billing options? RED FLAG #2 The dentist examined my teeth and looked at my x-rays and SHOOK MY HAND telling me I had a wonderful healthy mouth and teeth - "Great job!" I asked if I should be using any special toothpaste or rinse and he said over the counter would be just fine, but that an oral b toothbrush would be a good idea as I brush too hard. Enter the hygenist... who then goes on to look at my gums, that the DENTIST JUST LOOKED AT and all of a sudden I have gingivitis and need a prescription for toothpaste, rinse and 2 follow up appointments that will cost me $560 over and above what my insurance covers. I would have to come in for the first appointment to have the plaque and tartar removed and then a 2nd appointment for the peridontal cleaning and checkup RED FLAG #3 I told her I just wanted my teeth cleaned - I would follow up after 6 months and she said they would NOT CLEAN MY TEETH because they had to get the infection out first. She totally contradicted what I was told earlier. Contacting Delta Dental to request a 2nd opinion as I DO NOT TRUST THEM at all...

You almost fell for the #1 A$pen scam- converting a simple cleaning into a much more profitable scaling and root planing. It is funny how the dentist and the hygienist contradicted each other.

REMEMBER: the dentist gets no commissions on work the hygienist does. The Hygienist has a gun to her head to do a certain dollar amount of revenues.

If she bills less, she is in trouble. If she bills more, she gets a bonus.Understand the perverse incentive system now?Remember in corporate cesspool clinics, patient welfare always comes a distant second to corporate profitability.

I wrote my letter regarding my recent problem with AspenDental and asked Delta Dental to review my case and was told that there would be no refund because there was no proof they were immediate plates and not permanent plates. I was told by Aspen Dental they were immediate and that they couldn’t do anything to make them fit. I feel like Delta Dental is calling me a liar! I will never go to another Aspen Dental. My new dentist even told me they were a pair of very cheap plates and the metal was made with paper clips. I’m not going to stop there and will be filing a complaint with the Dental Association.

Thank you so much for your advice i really appreciate it. I guess i just need to suck it and the only reason i went to them is to have my back teeth pulled and nothing more because my dentist doesnt pull teeth.

I have a permanent set now and really love them. Again thank you for the advice.

Sorry to tell you your state dental association can't do a thing. They are as disgusted with corporate-owned dental practices as you are, but they don't have any disciplinary powers.Neither can the State Board of Dentistry do anything because they can only punish licensed dentist and hygienists, not corporate criminals. You see, you essentially give up all your legal protections when you patronize a dental office owned by investors instead of licensed dentists. Thanks goodness you found a good dentist now. PLEASE let him take care of you and don't be tempted to go to a corporate dental factory again!

Failed to recognize my dental insurance they claim to honor

Today I had a rear molar was extracted. Before I walked into the facility, they too my credit card to charge me $136 for the first consultation. When I got there, I waited 2 hours to see an oral surgeon. He confirmed the tooth needed to be extracted as did my regular dentist and a past dentist I used to use before he retired. This I paid $133 for. Then the oral surgeon said make another appointment to come in for the extraction. Before that, I had to sit down with the office manager to give me the news that it will cost a total of $485 for the entire procedure. I asked her about my Delta Dental insurance and she said they don’t cover this. Mind you, the reason I went to Aspen is because they were in the network for coverage. So I called Delta Dental customer service in front of the Aspen manager and the Delta rep said weather it be a regular dentist or oral surgeon, the price for both the X-rays, consultation, and retraction should not cost more than $85. I gave me phone to the Aspen manager and had the Delta rep relay that same information to her. The Delta rep also gave her the proper codes to enter which were the same as Aspen already had. The office manager reluctantly then told me I would be getting a refund of about $58 from the original $133 they charged me on my credit card. The extraction was done and the oral surgeon said they would call in a prescription to my pharmacy for an anti biotic and pain pills. My pharmacy has not gotten a call from Aspen or the oral surgeon as yet for the medications. All of this took about 4 hours in Aspen. Still no pain killers or antibiotics. There’s more, but I’ll stop here.

It is a mistake to select dentists from a grubby insurance list. When you do, you are selecting the most inexperienced and desperate dentists in your neighborhood. Trust me- it is no honor for a dentist to be on an insurance list.

Guest

You can't get any decent dentist to do a consult, x-ray, and even a simple extraction for $85. You got a garbage insurance plan. But great job spoiling their money-gouging racket.Once they got your money, you are old news.

Might be waiting around awhile for that prescription. Hope you got a long novel to read while you wait.

Stay away incompetent

Made a specific appt to see the Endodontist. Arrived at appt to see Endodontist to find she was not there. The staff seemed not to know what they were doing. I had a referral sent there for this. When I questioned why I was not seeing the Endodontist they told me I had to see dentist first. I have a dentist at another location that sent the referral over. Aspen Rochester made an error in my appt. and then tried to scam me by wanting me to see a dentist to cover the appt time. I would not allow it and the acting manager Veronica (would not give her last name) was extremely rude when I called out their incompetence. They wasted my time which is precious and then tried to scam me into charging me to see a dentist for no reason. I already had X-rays in hand what more was a dentist going to do. I was there to see Endodontist that I was suppose to have an appt with. I hope Aspen never allow the acting manger to become a manager. She was very rude unapologetic and tried to scam me and my insurance in to a bogus appt with a dentist.

The endodontist probably quit that corporate clown club the day before your appointment. No specialist worth anything would work very long for a chop shop like A$pen.Of course, an experienced general dentist could probably have done your root canal.

But most A$pen dentists are fresh out of school and unable to do complicated things like molar root canals. You are rolling the dice going to a corporate clip joint like A$pen. PLEASE find a competent dentist with his own practice to treat you.

Don't think things will get better no matter who the office manager is. The problem is with the organization- which incidentally, has been slammed by FOUR state attorneys-general already.

Pregnant and in pain.

The company never contacted me about my complaint with them. All I ever received was a bill in the mail for the X-rays that were pointless.

Original review May 09, 2018
I went to Aspen Dental for severe tooth pain. When I got there, I was 9 months pregnant and they insisted that an X-ray was necessary. My OB said it would be okay if absolutely necessary. So I allowed it. While I was getting the X-ray done, there were staff members fighting about the chair and I was sitting in to see the dentist. They wanted to give it away to someone else and make me go back and wait. They argued for a good 10 minutes while keeping me in the X-ray chair with an uncomfortable piece of plastic in my mouth pressing against the sore area. When I finally got back to the chair that was the center of the argument, I never saw a doctor. The original person was a dental tech or something and that’s who kept telling me what was going on. By that I mean, she told me I needed a cleaning. Fine, that’s wonderful but what about the pain? She went and got another person, who was a dental hygienist. The hygienist took measurements of my gums and told me I just needed a cleaning. That’s when she left and the original tech escorted me out to their financial specialist. When I sat down with the specialist she printed out a list of services I required. I still have never seen the actual dentist at this point and no one has said a word about my pain. She gives me the bulk of $492. For a cleaning. When I questioned what part my insurance paid she said that total was after insurance. I told her I could go to my regular dentist and get my teeth cleaned for just my co-pay. That’s when the FINANCIAL specialist told me I had severe gingivitis. Something none of the other people said and is common in pregnancy and that I required this specialized cleaning. I told her I wanted to speak to the dentist. She refused until I agreed to pay for services. She even tried to get me to agree to taking out a credit. I told her no and I left. Fast forward to yesterday. I went to an actual dentist office not aspen dental. They examined me completely. I had a cavity in my tooth that had food displaced in it causing the pain. They removed the food, filled the cavity and cleaned my teeth. It cost me $35 dollars and I feel wonderful.

NO DENTIST would work on a tooth without an x-ray of it. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynologists agree- with proper shielding NO dental x-rays reach the fetus.Generally in pregnant women, especially in their first trimester and toward the end of the 3rd trimester, we try to do the minimum dentistry possible.

You are right. The gums tend to get more inflamed in many women during pregnancy.Corporate chop shops like A$pen are famous for making mountains out of molehills. This is so they can put you in mountains of debt for unneeded treatment. Staff have got a gun to their heads to bill the maximum amount of revenue possible.

Office managers often make up expensive treatment plans to get monthly bonus, without any input from a real dentist! Now you know.

NEVER go to a corporate dental joint again. Independent dentists rely on satisfied patient referrals to stay in practice, not expensive TV ad campaigns.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
In October of 2017 I went into a aspen dental office to have multiple fillings refilled, a tooth pulled and some hygiene/cleaning. Before I had any work done I signed a treatment acceptance payment arrangement. The amount of all the work totalled $2316.00. But I have insurance and the insurance I have participates with aspen so I got a discount of $1042.00 and my insurance paid $825.00. So in total I was responsible for $448.80 and that included my deductible. So I accepted this treatment and instead of being out almost 450.00 upfront I did a 12 month no interest finance thing with dental first financing. Well I get my work done little by little and finally finish the end of October into November. Well my the beginning of December I had a broken filling. So I go into office have it looked at and was told no charge because the filling that failed was one I just had done. So everything's fine for next couple weeks until January I began receiving bills from them for $800+. After first bill I went into office to talk with the billing. They tell me that it was due to there upstairs people not taking off the discount and they would take care of it. Next in january I received another bill for same amout. I called In to office talked to someone else and they tell me same thing. February comes and I get a final notice bill. Stating that I owed $800+ for services and stating if I didn't pay it would go to collection. I again paid and became very mad and who I spoke with this time actually did something and I thought it was done. But then March comes and I get a collection notice in mail for not $800.00 but $125.00. I don't know how it goes from 800.00 to 125.00 but I called In and talked to a very rude man that attempted to argue with me that when I went in on December I didn't pay my bill that I signed saying I owed $86.00 for hygiene. I had to argue with him that the dentist told me no charge for fixed filling. And after he read further on the paper he saw he was wrong and told me it would be taken care of and hung up on me. Now it's April and I got a second collection notice. There are some incompitant people working at the butler Pennsylvania office. What's sad is the dentist and his hygentist and assistance are wonderful but this experience has made me so jaded that I won't go back to this office. Buyer beware. As of today 4/24/18 I am still dealing with this issue.

And you think the problem is only at this Butler PA office??? All you need to do is read a dozen or so comments to know it is systemwide!By the way, did you know the Pennsylvania attorney general was the first one to slam A$pen for cheating patients?

3 more AGs have followed. Unfortunately, A$pen just pays the settlement fines and resumes the patient scams.Got news for you. The filling that failed is not the only one that will self-destruct on you.

This clown club does not even offer sturdy silver amalgam or gold fillings for patients, that can last 40 years or more. Here is another news flash: the dentist and hygienist you liked so much will be gone in no time. Nobody with any clinical and patient skills works in the low-paying, high-pressure clown club called A$pen Dental for long.

It is quite the laugh when A$pen ridicules traditional dental practice owned by hard-working independent dentists. These guys depend on referrals from satisfied patients.

They have to make sure their patients are happy campers by doing treatment to the best of the ability. The inexperienced young dentists who work at A$pen don't depend on satisfied patient referrals, but the stupid TV ads you speak about. Their commission is very low, so they are forced to overtreat patients haphazardly to make enough money to pay off their student loans.

A$pen is one disgusting outfit. You know it has been hammered by FOUR state attorneys general already, right?
